Should You Upgrade to the Kestrel 5700 Elite? Yes! Here's Why:

Owners of the discontinued Kestrel Sportsman might be looking for a newer and better ballistics meter to improve their long-range range shooting accuracy. Now the Kestrel Sportsman owner can upgrade to the 5700 Elite without having to trade in their unit or even leave home!

The Kestrel 5700 and Ruger 5700 models can also be upgraded via a firmware update to the unlock the full extreme long range 5700 Elite version

The upgrade can be installed on a Kestrel 5 Series Sportsman, converting it into a full Kestrel 5700 Elite model with its more advanced long-range feature set and improved accuracy at transonic and subsonic bullet flight distances.

What's New with the Kestrel 5700 Elite?

In comparison to the Sportsman, the Kestrel 5700 brings new features and upgrades including:

Range Card feature
Custom Target Card
Drop Scale Factor Calibration
Applied Ballistics custom drag models
Storage for up to 16 gun profiles, upgraded from 3 profiles on the Sportsman
Applied Ballistics Litz Custom Drag Models

Upgrading to the 5700 Kestrel Elite

Upgrading from the discontinued Sportsman to the 5700 Kestrel Elite is quite simple.

The upgrade must be purchased from the Kestrel Ballistics website. You will also need a connection accessory such as a Kestrel LiNK Wireless Dongle or Kestrel USB Data Transfer Cable. You can purchase the upgrade with the connection accessory or as a download only if you already own one.

After entering your serial number and email address, the firmware will be emailed to you within 48 hours, not including weekends.

When you're ready to connect, make sure, you have LiNK software on your computer or Mac. On the Kestrel Ballistics website, you'll go to the support section and find the file to download LiNK on a Windows or Mac (OSX) computer.

You'll then connect the cord from the computer to the Kestrel. Inside the Kestrel dashboard on the computer, you'll click on the device and then click Manage. Click Model Upgrade and find the corresponding Elite file.

Once you open and confirm to run the new firmware, it will erase all existing data. You can save your gun profiles and other data on your computer if necessary.

A download progress bar will then pop up on your Kestrel as the new Elite version loads. The Kestrel reboots itself, and you are now officially upgraded to the 5700 Kestrel Elite.
