Nightforce ELR Steel Challenge Winner Uses Kestrel to Out-Battle the Competition

Jorge Ortiz recently snagged the winning title of the fifth annual Nightforce ELR Steel Challenges held June 13th-14th in Glenrock, Wyoming. The targets ranged between 700 to 1200 yards - coming in at 1.2 miles at the longest range.

Nearly 200 contestants engaged in the challenging event and faced the added hurdle of 60 MPH wind gusts.

Equipped with his Kestrel 5700 Elite and Berger .30-caliber 220-grain Long-Range Hybrid Target (LRHT) bullets inside a .300 Norma Mag, Ortiz secured the winning title.

The Kestrel 5700 Elite weather meter with Applied Ballistics precisely calculated wind speed and other elements for his perfect shot.

What is the Kestrel 5700 Elite Weather Meter?

The Kestrel 5700 Elite Meter with Applied Ballistics is the world's most complete ballistics calculator - a rugged weather meter with the science of accuracy built-in! View accurate measurement of wind and air density to deliver elevation and windage solutions for unprecedented accuracy on extended long-range shots. The integration of the ballistics calculator automatically corrects for Aerodynamic Jump, Spin Drift, and Coriolis. This makes your long-range shooting attempts as accurate as possible.

The foundational function of the Kestrel 5700 is to provide real-time results on current weather. Weather mode offers the full environmental measurements, storage, and charting capabilities of the Kestrel 5500 Weather Meter, including:

  • Wind speed
  • Wind direction
  • Crosswind
  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Pressure
  • Altitude

The Kestrel 5700 also employs the Applied Ballistics bullet library of custom drag models, and an exact measurement of your bullet's drag profile. Expanded features include a customizable Target Card and an expanded Ballistics Data Table, as well as storage for up to 30 gun and bullet profiles and 10 saved targets.

Optional LiNK Bluetooth connectivity provides wireless communication to mobile devices and computers via the free Kestrel Ballistics LiNK app.

How can LiNK help you become a better long-range shooter?

Available for IoS and Android, the Kestrel Ballistics LiNK app provides full gun management and access to the Applied Ballistics library of custom drag models for transfer to the Kestrel. Remotely view firing solutions on your phone, adjust target and range data, and access bullet libraries without moving your position. You can also easily create, store, and transfer different gun profiles to your Kestrel Ballistics Meter, so first shot confidence is always within reach.
