Dog Truck Monitored with Kestrel DROP
Customer bought the Kestrel Drop temperature meter recently and installed it in the rear storage area of his dog truck to monitor conditions from the cab.
Setup was very easy. At first, it seemed as though getting it to communicate with my iPhone was intermittent if my phone was on the console of my truck (Chevrolet 3500 HD 1 ton diesel crew cab), but I've noticed that it's communicating more reliably now. I'm usually getting 1-2 strength bars. I'm sure it's due to the Bluetooth signal having to penetrate a lot of heavy stainless steel as well as the steel of the truck itself.
The topper unit is not only made of heavy stainless steel, but each dog compartment is separated from the others by stainless steel. Just so you know, those topper units are fully insulated and have a blower (in addition to a 30 gallon reservoir and stainless steel water pails in each do compartment so they remain reasonably cool).
Overall, I'm pleased with the Kestrel Drop's operation. I've attached a photo of where the Drop is installed (next to a standard thermometer) and a photo of my truck.
