Ballistic Performance of Rifle Bullets contains the current library of all modern bullets tested by the Applied Ballistics Laboratory. Expanding on the first edition of this title which had data on 400 bullets from .22 to .408 caliber, this second edition contains data on 533 bullets from .22 thru .50 caliber. In addition to the centerfire bullet data, this edition contains live fire data on 90 types of rimfire ammo which were all tested for muzzle velocity and BC thru 5 different barrels of various twist and length configurations. This library of experimental test data is the most extensive and accurate resource ever assembled for small arms bullets. Numerous modern ballistics solvers and programs draw from the library of tested BC’s that are
published in this book.
Ballistic Performance of Rifle Bullets has just one chapter in the beginning that outlines the goal of the data that the rest of this book contains. Bryan has made quick references that help shooters quickly determine what bullet will work best for their long range needs and what twist rates will produce the best BC/performance.
The level of accuracy in modern rifles is becoming increasingly accurate. But the true is, in many cases, the weak link in accurately hitting your target is the trajectory modeling, which is based on the performance of your bullet. The hard fact is... no all bullet manufacturers are set up to the task of providing the highly accurate Ballistic Coefficients (BC's) that you need. In many cases, even slight inaccuracies in BC can be the cause of missing your target. Adding to this, true comparisons of bullet performance is not possible when multiple brands are determining the BCs.
Based on live fire testing methods, the Ballistic Coefficient data is repeatable within +/- 1%. Using a common testing method for bullets of all brands, shooters are getting consistent and accurate performance data which can be used to compare and select bullets, as well as to calculate accurate trajectories which put your shots on target at long range. Detailed stability data is also included which can be used to determine suitable twist rates for bullets in various environments.
